Maths Talk TV(CD+ site license)

Maths Talk TV was conceived to provide high quality visual stimuli that could engage pupils and promote talk in the classroom. We believe that mathematics also floats on the sea of talk. It consists of 75 high quality photographs stored in an electronic photo wall, deliberately chosen for their maths content and the opportunities they provide for provoking high quality maths talk. The resource is also accompanied by same 75 printed photographs, to add an additional flexibility and dimension, catering for a wider range of learning styles. This combination of media is visual attractive and engaging to pupils and taps into the electronic culture of the current generation of e-children.
Maths Talk TV allows pupils to explore creatively the world of maths, to raise questions, answer questions, discuss, explain and apply. It allows them to answer questions using their discursive and reasoning skills but perhaps more importantly allows then to raise questions and understand that questions exist on a number of levels.
This resource can be used in a number of ways in mental orals starters, mini-plenaries, and main activities. It can be used to develop children’s questioning skills, allow teachers to lay bare pupil misconceptions, allow pupils to verbalise their level of understanding by explaining to others and allow them to develop their creativity and imaginative skills.
