Fiery Ideas Educational Consultancy is run by Michael Thorp, a primary practitioner with 15 years experience as classroom teacher, teaching and learning consultant and senior manager.
Michael is currently Headteacher of an inner city primary school in Bradford, very much focused on raising standards.
Fiery Ideas aims to develop simple software that leaves the tricky business of learning in the hands of teachers, but seeks to facilitate this with bright, engaging and exciting software.
This has led Fiery Ideas to develop software for visionary educationalists such as Ray Maher, Maths Matters, Andrell Education and Ros Wilson.
All of our software in developed in conjunction with real teachers and real children. This means we know our software is:
We currently have over 50 teacher tools and pupil games in various packages, expanding almost weekly.
The concepts for our software are borne in the classroom and stem from our wide network of primary practitioners. The ideas are then developed by our educational software developers all of whom have excellent working knowledge of teachers and learners needs.
All of our software is ‘rapid application development’ which means the cycle of conception – authoring – and testing happens very quickly, often in a matter of months. This means that our software can be reactive and truly meet the ever changing and developing needs of schools.
The software once written is then tried and tested in the classroom, meaning that we gain real feedback from real teachers and learners to make sure our software is as effective as it can be.
Many of these games start off life in the “Freebie” section of our website and are downloaded by many teachers – PGCE students to senior managers.
For as little as £20.00 you could dabble in a piece of software and see first hand how flexible, effective and exciting it can be.

Sue Barratt CBE, Headteacher, Bournville Primary School, Birmingham
“We use both the home, pupil and teacher software in school to great effect. The games are simple and effective and have certainly given that a buzz to our lessons. The excitement and engagement from the children is tangible when we use them!”
Dianne Rowbotham, Swain House Primary School, Bradford
“I always find Fiery Ideas software really engages pupils and really stimulates them. Most of all though it makes learning fun and as we know sometimes they don't even know they are learning when they are having fun!”
Karen Garner (Juliateacher in the TES forums), Shirley Warren Primary, Southampton
